Community Housing Developers, Inc. is a private, tax-exempt, nonprofit housing provider. Since incorporation in 1979 by a broad-based coalition of local community groups, church organizations and other concerned individuals, CHD has actively pursued many new projects to fulfill its mandate and is determined to continue to provide housing for the residents of Santa Clara Valley. Since 1979, CHD has developed over 900 units of housing and assisted over 3,000 families. CHD also has six future projects under different stages of planning. This rate of growth accommodates the organization’s expanded vision and goals. CHD accomplishes its goals in several ways:

• Construction of new single-family dwellings and rental units (288 affordable for-sale units and 230 rental units);
• Acquisition and rehabilitation of existing housing (400 affordable rental units have been acquired and rehabilitated);
• Property management of CHD-owned properties (CHD oversees American Management Services who provides professional property management for all CHD-owned rental properties);
• Specialized programs for those with specific needs, including seniors, single parents, and the physically challenged;
• Joint-venture partnerships with other nonprofit and for-profit developers to expand services; and
• Provides technical and administrative assistance to other nonprofits.
